What beautiful questions. The """default""" state of being is one mind in one body. Plural entities, systems, or beings with DID have more than one mind (identity) in one body. This page lists all of ours! In the majority of cases, including ours, these identities are formed by intense and chronic trauma. The brain says "I cannot go through all of this alone" and creates more identities so it doesn't have to. DID is comorbid with CPTSD or BPD, so please be kind to other systems you meet.
